Most people would promote US based company, but think about the market you are targeting. If you are targeting the local market, stick to local hosting companies. See what happens when Streamyx screwed up. All access to international sites became slow. It is still f*cking slow currently.

Another thing is, you don’t need PayPal or a credit card to pay for hosting with a local provider. You don’t even need online banking. Just go to the nearest cash deposit machine, make your payment, done.

Regardless which ClickBank fast track package you choose, either RCB or Pakej Video Youtube (read the review of Pakej Video Youtube Lisa Hilmi), if you are looking for a hosting company in Malaysia, I would like to propose (and promote) the companies below.

Just A Short Review of a few Hosting Providers in Malaysia

NetKL
This is my 3rd year with NetKL. No problem except on a few days last year, but they compensate all their users by giving 30% off on renewal. It was worth it if compared to the money I made from my blogs hosted with them. At RM55/year for domain and hosting, for 400MB of disk space and 7GB of bandwidth, what is there to complain? If you are only looking for a domain, it is only RM29.90 at NetKL. However, you may need to add another RM3.60 if you are using blogger for hosting or if your are using your domain with Adsense for Domain. I have written about setting up AFD with NetKL, you can find the post here.

Fivio
This is one of the most stable. Took an offer when there was a promotion of RM50/year for domain and hosting. At that time, Fivio was also an advertiser on one of my blog. Initially I thought of only using Fivio for testing, but now two of my support sites are with Fivio. I made some money by marketing their affiliate and it’s enough to renew the hosting package for another 2 years. The current Odin package at RM100 will give you 6GB of disk space, 20GB of bandwidth and 18GB of backup space.

ServerFreak
Another good hosting provider. Fast support. Azwan.My is hosted at ServerFreak. They do provide hosting at a US server if you prefer to host yours there like mine. Since most of my other blogs receive more traffic from the US, the whole account is now hosted on a US server :) Their cheapest package is RM50 currently for 500MB of disk space and 10GB of bandwidth without domain. Use this coupon code 10peroff for 10% off for shared and reseller hosting.

Rawanaz
The newest from Malaysia and one of the cheapest. You can get a hosting package for as low as RM15 per year. Fit a student budget perfectly. The current promotion is the Hijrah package that comes with 4GB of disk space and 100GB of bandwidth for only RM50 without domain. Since it is very new, not much can be said except so far .. ok.
[Update: 18/02/10] I have removed all my account from Rawanaz. The service is slow and support sometimes took more than 3 days to reply to the support ticket. 1 year is enough for me. Rawanaz is not recommended.

By the way, it may look like that I have a lot of blogs. No, I only maintain two or three regularly (which include this one). Some are only updated once a month and some are just minisites and landing pages which I recently setup for my affiliate products, which doesn’t require any update, but only fine tuning when required.

Regardless which company you decide to host your blog on. Remember to backup your blogs regularly. Once in two weeks should be sufficient. Once for the stagnant ones.

    you will only need to use it when there’s a problem. no problem, just keep it.

    So far, i don’t face any issue with NetKL this year. You should check with their support team.

    just to be clear, i don’t think the last streamyx screw up only affects international links, it also affects local links…even tm.net site can be opened and their DNS servers can’t be pinged!

  8. |1f34|-|1r3 · March 19, 2009 @ 6:58 PM

    yeap. agree!

    better to use local hosting. easy to pay, easy for seeking any help.

  16. catzer · March 20, 2009 @ 12:03 PM

Seram sei. Nasib baik site2 aku masa tu sume di oversea and alhamdulillah making money even pemiliknya tgh termenung tak dpt access.

    Salam,

    Nak tambah, pasal takut salah maklumat. Yang cabel putus tuh bukannya milik TMNET. Ianya adalah international gateway.

    Maka yang bertanggung jawap ialah international bandwidth provider bukannya TMNET.

    Salam,

  18. azwan · March 20, 2009 @ 10:39 PM

    @Alone
    ya .. you are right

    @Catzer
    there’s pro and cons, but for those who are just starting a local one is suitable just to get a feel of everything

    @Fadhlullah
    Salam
    ya, maybe this time it’s not due to TMNet, but still TMNet’s services is still not good enough even though at the time when there’s no problem to the international gateway

    Looks like these are good web hosting companies in Malaysia. What do you think about Exabytes? They are very popular too I think.

    I am actually looking for a cheap and good web hosting company. A little undecided now. Just now read about Serverfreak at this page http://hubpages.com/hub/ServerFreak-Malaysia-Web-Hosting

    Now, I need some more recommendations before going for it. Thanks ya!
