Although my earlier post is about Google and privacy, when it comes to traffic. It’s still about Google.

Earlier, I also asked whether should we have the meaning for the word Bing in the dictionary, like the one we already have for Google. After going through some statistics from comScore, looks like Bing is not even able to beat Yahoo! in the search engine wars.

Asia Pacific
According to a study by comScore in September 2009, 38.6 billion searches were conducted in the Asia Pacific region. An increase of 33% from the previous year. Google ranked as the top search destination with 44% shares, while Baidu has 21.3% market share, followed by Yahoo! 13.8%. Bing was not mentioned, but Microsoft sites share is less than 10%.

Google’s 44% equals to 17 billion searches and that is a lot of searches in a month. Google captured the majority share of searches in Malaysia with 71.1%. I don’t have the exact search phrases that were used, but the data is enough to show that more people are using search engines to get information. They are using Bing the least.

United States
November 2009′s data on US search engine rankings showed almost the same result.

Google Sites led the U.S. core search market in November with 65.6 percent of the searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites (17.5 percent), and Microsoft Sites (10.3 percent). Ask Network captured 3.8 percent of the search market, followed by AOL LLC with 2.8 percent.

Microsoft sites (Bing included), although at third place, only able to get 10% of the total searches, regardless whether it is in the US or in Asia Pacific.

If you are doing search engine optimization, you can drop Bing from your list of search engines to optimize, but if you are targeting China, you must consider Baidu. Google is still number two in China, and it will be that way for a while. Based on the experience working in a Chinese company, Chinese will always prefer Chinese products to others, unless Google could come out with something to temp them to change. Maybe with Android?

Concentrate your SEO to suits Google. Ignore the rest

I thought that after posting about starting the traffic experiment on the 7th of March 2009, I would be able to do a review after a month.

I was wrong Something change which not only postponed the review, but also my goals and targets for 2009. Quite a significant one, and a drastic change to my way of life too. Anyway, that is for another post

For now, lets take a look on how I did. I started this when people keep on asking “how to increase traffic?” and posted about my traffic secret, briefly and then the announcement of the traffic experiment.

I will not touch on Sony PSP. Since my old blog has been change to Comics, Games and Anime, will be doing the optimization there rather than here. I will also not discuss about Avillion Port Dickson just yet. For today, will only be touching on Travian Malaysia (since this is also games related, will be moving this out to Comics, Games and Anime as well. Soon)

So, how did my Travian Malaysia post performs.

(1) Money. Gold.
It made me, as at of writing, 420 pieces of Gold. All from the people that joined and played Travian through my affiliate link. 420 pieces of gold is equals to USD27.86 if I were to purchased directly from Travian bit by bit.

(2) Google SERPs
For Travian Malaysia, the post is on the 1st page at #5, out of 240,000 results. For the keyword Travian, it is on the 2nd page out of 14,200,000 results. Both is from http://www.google.com.my/ Since my target is Malaysia, I didn’t bother for the results in http://www/google.com/, but I did check for Travian Malaysia which is on the 3rd page of http://www.google.com

How was it done i.e. how I optimized the post? Will discuss this in the next post. With further optimization, I think I will have a lot more golds for my Travian campaign.

Remember my previous post on How To Increase Traffic To Your Blog?

Having a niche blog is much easier, but you can do the same for a non niche blog. The example is Azwan. My You have seen how my traffic increased for the last 3 months.

You can use these 3 steps to increase your traffic:

Check your popular post. See which one is popular, decide whether it is worth to optimize further.

Study your traffic stats. Analyze the keywords that brought those traffic to your popular post. Check the long tail keywords used and compare with the words used in your posts.

Evaluate your posts again, and put in the right words.

It all goes down to SEO. Take some time to learn the basics. Offpage optimization will help you the most, but no point to do that if your onpage optimization is not good. Work on the onpage optimization first.

You can just Google for SEO, offpage and onpage optimization if you need the info now. However, I will also have some posts on it later … with examples.

Build your traffic, and you page rank or alexa rank will increase accordingly

p/s
Refer to this link, for the Popular Posts Plugin

This is a new blog, after almost 2 years at azwanhadzree dot com, so .. why not do a periodic review of this blog’s progress?

Since I do touch on categories such as blogging tips, traffic and also page rank, at least I can show you that whatever tips that I gave you – works.

If it works for me, on a non niche blog, it will work on you too.

Page Rank

Didn’t expect this to be so soon after the algorithm changed. Got PR2 in less than 2 months. Since I got it fast, I could loose it the same way too.

Alexa Rank

For Alexa, you can refer to my Alexa review post.

Traffic Stastistic

Traffic has started to increase. Looks like when I decided to concentrate on onpage optimization first, has started to pay off. Can’t wait to see more traffic when the offpage optimization process starts. I have started with a social bookmarking site, more about this later ok

Other rankings? How about Technorati?

Although I have a Technorati account, I haven’t been paying much attention to it. Technorati calculates Technorati Authority and also Technorati Rank. Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has. Technorati Rank shows you how far are you from being number one. More on how to use Technorati for your blog later. Currently my authority is very low :

View blog authority

PR, Alexa and Traffic might not be so important for some people. Some IMs also do not care for PR nor Alexa. Their main concern is targeted traffic and most have a list of emails to market their products. Only minisites are required and a list of emails to direct the traffic to. I am beginning to explore that area too myself , but for those who are making money online through advertising, links selling, adsense etc .. etc .. these 3 (and a few others) are important.

p/s

Don’t worry, my personal blog will not move anymore. This site is permanent unless I forget to pay my renewal fees
