Although my earlier post is about Google and privacy, when it comes to traffic. It’s still about Google.

Earlier, I also asked whether should we have the meaning for the word Bing in the dictionary, like the one we already have for Google. After going through some statistics from comScore, looks like Bing is not even able to beat Yahoo! in the search engine wars.

Asia Pacific
According to a study by comScore in September 2009, 38.6 billion searches were conducted in the Asia Pacific region. An increase of 33% from the previous year. Google ranked as the top search destination with 44% shares, while Baidu has 21.3% market share, followed by Yahoo! 13.8%. Bing was not mentioned, but Microsoft sites share is less than 10%.

Google’s 44% equals to 17 billion searches and that is a lot of searches in a month. Google captured the majority share of searches in Malaysia with 71.1%. I don’t have the exact search phrases that were used, but the data is enough to show that more people are using search engines to get information. They are using Bing the least.

United States
November 2009′s data on US search engine rankings showed almost the same result.

Google Sites led the U.S. core search market in November with 65.6 percent of the searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites (17.5 percent), and Microsoft Sites (10.3 percent). Ask Network captured 3.8 percent of the search market, followed by AOL LLC with 2.8 percent.

Microsoft sites (Bing included), although at third place, only able to get 10% of the total searches, regardless whether it is in the US or in Asia Pacific.

If you are doing search engine optimization, you can drop Bing from your list of search engines to optimize, but if you are targeting China, you must consider Baidu. Google is still number two in China, and it will be that way for a while. Based on the experience working in a Chinese company, Chinese will always prefer Chinese products to others, unless Google could come out with something to temp them to change. Maybe with Android?

Concentrate your SEO to suits Google. Ignore the rest

The contest is getting tougher. My Melayu Boleh blog is nowhere near the first 3 pages on Google search results. At google.com.my, it’s currently on page 7. It has started to move higher from page 9(last week) to 8(yesterday) and now 7(today), but it is still a long way to go. The contest ends 15 June 2009, but the winner will be picked from google.com and not google.com.my. I am not so sure where I am at, at google.com. I didn’t check.

Anyway, I have added more post to my Melayu Boleh blog and if you see the latest ones, most are related to animation:

The Making of Geng Pengembaraan Bermula

Silat Lagenda

Hassan Abd Mutalib

OnPage Optimization:
Googge it for more info ok. This is partly done:

Using bold, italics, header keys, etc

Linking among posts, categories and tags

I’ve even added the post title into the first paragraph.

Using all in one SEO pack plugin.

Using XML Sitemap plugin

and other plugins

OffPage Optimization:

Have also added links from my other blogs pointing to my Melayu Boleh.

Have started to add bookmarks at social bookmarking sites.

Will start these soon:

Commenting on DoFollow blogs

Commenting on blogs with commentluv plugin installed

Commenting on blogs with keywordluv plugin installed

Commenting on blogs with top commentators plugin.

Will also plead, beg for links from friends blogs

Is it possible to be in the first 2 pages of google.com.my search result in the next two weeks, and google.com a week after that? Hmmm … if everyone else is doing the same, then I would most probably stay at the same place

Remember my previous post on How To Increase Traffic To Your Blog?

Having a niche blog is much easier, but you can do the same for a non niche blog. The example is Azwan. My You have seen how my traffic increased for the last 3 months.

You can use these 3 steps to increase your traffic:

Check your popular post. See which one is popular, decide whether it is worth to optimize further.

Study your traffic stats. Analyze the keywords that brought those traffic to your popular post. Check the long tail keywords used and compare with the words used in your posts.

Evaluate your posts again, and put in the right words.

It all goes down to SEO. Take some time to learn the basics. Offpage optimization will help you the most, but no point to do that if your onpage optimization is not good. Work on the onpage optimization first.

You can just Google for SEO, offpage and onpage optimization if you need the info now. However, I will also have some posts on it later … with examples.

Build your traffic, and you page rank or alexa rank will increase accordingly

p/s
Refer to this link, for the Popular Posts Plugin

A simple question that has been repeated (and answered) a million times, but still … not many people can maintain the consistency even though tips of doing it can be found anywhere across the blogosphere. Sometimes, they are just being repeated from one blog to the other, written differently of course.

When you have a blog, there’s nothing more important than traffic. Traffic = Money, especially if you are monetizing your blog.

My traffic Secret Is Simple.

Once in a while, just do a few post that can stand the test of time. A post that will remain useful and valued over a long period of time. Something that is related to your niche is better.

How? That you have to figure out yourself If you want to know how I do it, stay tuned for my next post.

What ever you do, concentrate on getting organic search engine traffic. Why?

Ask yourself, if you are looking for something on the internet what do you do. Google it, right?

When others are using the search engines, they are actually searching for your site

And of course, organic traffic is free.

Anyway, don’t worry. I’ll share my tips. Drop by more often This post is my response to Dean’s comment.
