In the Stop Chasing For The Next Big Thing post, Zaki asked me what is my plan for 2010. Well, I am concentrating on what I do best. Build blogs, bringing in traffic and monetizing it.

If you want to make money with Adsense, you only need to do these two things:

  • Build a niche blog that will make you a lot of money per click.
  • Bring in the traffic.

Ini bukan cerita kedai kopi, tetapi ada kamera ada saksi, bukan sensasi di kedai kopi. Hah!

Just my bad luck. In 2008 during the SAP project where I have to travel KL-Prai almost every week, I drove like crazy. On Mondays, the journey starts at 630AM and I would reach Prai at around 930AM, including stops. Then Firdays, back to KL in almost the same duration. So, you go figure the speed.

Since I have been traveling for almost 18 months, I knew where were the hot spots, but 1 day the Police decide to change location, so apa lagi kena la!

If you receive an email from a so called IM guru with something which starts or ends with ‘the next big thing’, just ignore it.

I have seen to many failures due to that. About a year ago, I have a lot of links at my blogroll page, but when I reviewed all the links again, I found out that some of the domains have already expired. Those bloggers started with make money online blogs, but seems like they gave up half way.

The main problem is – they were chasing one opportunity after another. Always looking for ‘the next big thing’. Another problem is – they believed the hype.

The last 5 months (since that post) were very taxing for me. There were so much things to do, but so little time. If you have been wondering where have I been until I didn’t have the time to update this blog and also my kids blog (see RSS feed on sidebar), I was busy with my niche blogs.

Hosting
I had to decide whether to stay with the the old hosting company or move. I had to re-organized and re-group similar blogs together. The ones that have been receiving more traffic from US are moved to a US server. The ones that are still in infancy stage are group together while the one that are already making money need attention to grow.

Seems like there are many blogs involve, but there’s only a few actually :)

New Domain
There’s also a domain that needed a new name. After a while, a personal blog tends to head towards a specific niche. So in order for it to grow further, I decided that it needed a new domain name. Hence Comics & Games dot com. That way, if in the future I decide to sell it, it will be much easier. This took a while, as planning is quite crucial. Maybe I’ll do a post of domain migration later.

Although my earlier post is about Google and privacy, when it comes to traffic. It’s still about Google.

Earlier, I also asked whether should we have the meaning for the word Bing in the dictionary, like the one we already have for Google. After going through some statistics from comScore, looks like Bing is not even able to beat Yahoo! in the search engine wars.

Asia Pacific
According to a study by comScore in September 2009, 38.6 billion searches were conducted in the Asia Pacific region. An increase of 33% from the previous year. Google ranked as the top search destination with 44% shares, while Baidu has 21.3% market share, followed by Yahoo! 13.8%. Bing was not mentioned, but Microsoft sites share is less than 10%.
